WHICH SANI2C SHOULD I ENTER?

There are three versions of the same event at KAP sani2c, because there a lot of people who want to ride sani2c, and a lot of them want to do it again, and again, every year in fact. So the team started duplicating sani2c to create more space, with all three events now taking place over five days. The three events have each developed their own special character.

There are many (some might say most) things at sani2c that are the same at each event, and the most important and obvious one is the point-to-point route. All three events start at Glencairn Farm near Underberg and cover the same 265 kms of thrilling trails with a ridiculously high proportion of singletrack, some gut-busting climbs, leg-wobbling descents and a whole lot of fun. All riders stay at the same overnight race villages at Mackenzie Club and Jolivet Farm, and all riders cross the finish line on the grass at Scottburgh Golf Club at the coast, generally with a big smile on their faces.

KAP sani2c ‘OG’ (formerly known as KAP sani2c Race)

This is the original sani2c, where it all started. These riders are the ‘original gangstas’ of sani2c. They have been around for a while and love being part of the ‘first’ event, even though it is the last to start and finish each year. ‘OGs’ love to share their love of sani2c and welcome new riders, especially encouraging women to become ‘OGs’.

The sani2c racing happens here. ‘OG’ is a UCI sanctioned event and a Prologue takes place the day before. The presence of the pro teams in the race villages creates a certain frisson in the air that you may experience at the other two events.

The OG starts on Thursday and finishes on Saturday. No e-bikes will be allowed to ride the ‘OG’, they will be welcomed in the e-Trail.

KAP sani2c Adventure

The Adventure riders think they have the most fun. Some of them are pretty hardcore racers but they like to shine in the middle event, and not try and fight it out with the pros. The beers flow fast and strong after a challenging morning out on the bike, and the stories of conquering the Unitrans Iconic Climb flow as readily. You have to be quick if you want to be an Adventurer, this event sells out fast.

Adventure starts on Wednesday and finishes on Friday. No e-bikes will be allowed to ride the Adventure, they will be welcomed in the e-Trail.

KAP sani2c e-Trail ( formerly known as the KAP sani2c Trail)

This is the e-bike race, though all riders are welcome here. This event promises to develop its character over time, as 2024 was the first year that e-bikes were put into one focused event and the decision was made to keep this event smaller, with just 250 teams, or 500 riders. The added bonus? All riders enjoy a tent to themselves.

There is racing at e-Trail, with leaders’ jerseys after each stage, and the competition is fierce upfront. e-Trail riders love their mountain biking, but some just don’t get the time to train

to do the sani trails justice. Their e-bike helps them to enjoy the true value of a sani2c entry, the ridiculously fun singletrack.

e-Trail starts on Tuesday and finishes on Thursday. Join the e-Trail and be a part of creating this e-Trail community.

Whichever of the three events you choose, you will have fun riding your bike while pushing yourself to achieve beyond what you may  have thought was possible. This is what sani2c is all about -any relatively fit rider can ‘do’ sani2c, but the true enjoyment is finding the sweet spot between pushing yourself to where you know how deep you had to dig, and frolicking in the singletrack having fun.

This is why Farmer Glen has built the Unitrans Iconic Climb to be so tough - that sani2c finishline feeling stays with you forever, and you want to know you earned it.
